Gilma Teodora Gylytė is a Lithuanian architect, as well as an ambassador of human-oriented architecture and de-sovietization of spaces. She believes that the spaces we inhabit shape our minds and actions, and they are powerful tools for positive transformation.
In 2013, Gilma co-founded DO ARCHITECTS, an award-winning studio in Vilnius, Lithuania, and oversees its creative team. Gilma also founded “Rebuild the Wonderful”, an initiative for soviet architecture humanization in CEE and particularly Ukraine, in 2022.
CURRICULUM VITAE
Gilma Teodora Gylytė was born on April 3, 1984, in Vilnius, Lithuania(then under Soviet occupation), into a family of architects. Gilma is chief architect, founder and partner of the studio DO ARCHITECTS http://www.doarchitects.lt/, member of the Council of the Lithuanian Chamber of Architects.
At DO ARCHITECTS, Gilma has been leading creative teams behind pioneering projects such as soviet kindergarten transformation near Vilnius, soviet street network humanization, conversions ranging from protected heritage to abandoned factories, and dozens of other human-centric contemporary architecture projects.
Gilma together with DO ARCHITECTS has been nominated 7 times for Europe’s most prestigious „Mies van der Rohe Award“ for Contemporary Architecture, won 5 main prizes at annual Lithuanian Contemporary Architecture Awards „Žvilgsnis į save“ and has been the most nominated architect (5 times) in National Architecture Awards (NAA) in Lithuania including 2 more project awards. The team’s projects are regularly published in Lithuanian and foreign media.
